Millhouse and I are a two income household again!!
Hip to the mother frickin hooray!!!
It took us over 13 months for Millhouse to find something.
It’s been hard.
Millhouse is now a tech for the restaurant industry. It is something completely different from what he was doing before and it is a pretty steep pay cut but there is potential for more money. The chances of Millhouse becoming a big boss, like he was before, are slim to none* but the potential to earn more is there and that is what makes this job so great.
Millhouse has been in an office environment for over 14 years, unfortunately, no office environment that he applied to was looking for someone like him. So he had to get something more physical. He hasn’t done physical labour since he was in his teens, so this has been an adjustment. Also, he now works at night, all night. Because he a mobile tech, he is never in the same place all the time and his schedule is not set at all. Some nights he leaves at 9pm and gets home around 5am but most nights he leaves around 11pm and doesn’t get home until after 7am. He doesn’t get any breaks or lunches so he works through the entire call, and then comes home to bathe, eat and sleep. He sleeps until 3pm and then he gets up for a bit and depending on how late his next job is, he may go back to sleep until 6 or 7pm.
Since the boys and I leave around 7am, there are mornings where we don’t see Millhouse at all before we head out. We do see him in the evening but it is when we are settling down for the night, and when he is starting to rev up for his night. It’s a hard schedule and it takes a lot of getting used to. But everyone seems to be adjusting OK to it so far.
He does get Fridays and Saturdays off so that is a bonus. We can still do family things on Friday evenings and Saturday all day. Sundays have been an adjustment because they have to be more of a lazy day now because Millhouse needs to sleep before he goes to work in the evenings. Things are going OK so far, I am not sure what our schedule will be like for the summer though.
*that part was a huge blow to him. Millhouse has been a manager or higher for the past 10 years. To be told that he would never become something that high in this company really did knock him down and it was an idea that he really had to get used to.

Congrats! I’m happy for you guys.
