Maks and the Veggie Burger Part 2

Posted by Meli on December 21, 2011 in food, Maks |

I made this veggie burger recipe in an attempt to turn Maks into a flexitarian.

I failed miserably.

I totally tried to turn it into a super fun activity and really tried to make eating vegetables sound more like a playground game than the battle of wills that it usually is.

I still failed miserably.

I prepared all the ingredients ahead of time.  I had them all set up neatly for Maks and he helped with the assembly.  I got him to smell all the veggies as we put the burger together and tell me what he thought about the textures and colours.  All through the assembly, he kept telling how good the burger smelled and how yummy all the veggies looked.  I was pretty pleased with myself.  I thought that I had finally done it and Maks had crossed over to the veggie side.

He helped me shape the burgers and watched as I fried them up.  When the first one was ready, I put it together a burger for Maks, with a liberal helping of ketchup, because everything that Maks consumes must have ketchup.

I carried his plate over to him, like it was Grandma’s famous Thanksgiving turkey and placed it before him as if he was a king, expecting him to pounce on it like a Tasmanian Devil.

He didn’t.

He picked it up, licked it and promptly told me that he didn’t like it and didn’t want to eat it.  No amount of convincing would work.  He refused to eat it even though he helped make it,  and even though he said everything in it looked and smelled good, he wasn’t having it.

He ate chicken nuggets instead.
